The New England Helicopter Council
traces its lineage to 1978 and the founding of the New England
Helicopter Pilots Association (NEHPA). The Association's primary
purpose was to enhance communication and safety within the helicopter
community. Fueled by the economy in the vibrant 80's, the NEHPA
expanded rapidly and provided forums, education programs and
social events to benefit its members. Additionally, NEHPA became
the interface between the rotary-wing community and state and
federal agencies. In that role, the Association was instrumental
in establishing helicopter routes within the Boston Metropolitan
area and provided these agencies with constructive input for
all helicopter operations.
With the growing role of rotorcraft
throughout the region, in 1997 the NEHPA was reorganized as the
New England Helicopter Council. Membership was expanded to include
business executives, rotorcraft operators, industry suppliers
and rotorcraft enthusiasts. After more than 25 years of service,
the NEHC has become the coordinating point and primary advocate
for the rotorcraft community within our six state New England
region. It remains committed to fostering and promoting the safe
use of rotorcraft in its full variety of applications and the
continuous improvement of the infrastructure to support this
use.
